Maintenance - Washing
SILK RENATE®*
For the cleaning of your silk Renate, we suggest you go through the dry cleaning.
Silk stains and fades easily when in contact with water, especially if washed the wrong way or immersed in water for more than 5 minutes. Avoid this by dabbing the stain with a cloth dampened with cold water.
RENATE® IN WOOL*
Wool Renate may “felt” if cleaned using the wrong method. This means that it will start to frizz or contract if you subject it to too violent movements and too great variations in water temperature.
* Stained, we suggest you take your Renate to a dry cleaner.
* However, if you wish to use any of the methods described below, exercise caution and test them first on the less visible part of the Renate.
RENATE® IN COTTON OR POLYESTER
The polyester Renate® is hand washable. Here's how:
- Fill a sink with cold or lukewarm water.
- Mix a tablespoon of detergent in it.
- Immerse the Renate and stir lightly.
- Leave to soak for 10 minutes.
- Take the Renate out of the water, empty the sink and fill it again, this time using clear, cold water.
- Dip the Renate in the water to rinse the residual soap (repeat the operation until there is no more soap and the water is perfectly clear)
- Sponge up excess water with a towel.
- Dry flat on a cloth.
CAUTION
- Avoid bleach. Bleach will cause cotton or polyester to yellow.
- Washing machines and dryers are aggressive for fabrics. The Renate is a small delicate object, putting it in the washing machine will make it wrinkled and will damage the different layers of fabric as well as their lining.
- Never twist your Renate to wring it.
TO MAKE AN ALREADY DRY STAIN DISAPPEAR
- Use a baby wipe and wipe the stain (wiping in one direction)
- Rub gently
- Use low to medium pressure and check the wipe regularly to make sure the stain is coming off (the wipe will be dirty).
SMOOTH THE RENATE®
The fabrics used in the manufacture of a Renate, such as silk, polyester or wool, are very fragile and do not support heat very well. This operation should therefore be carried out with caution and moderation. Never use an iron directly on a Renate. It could burn her! To do well, always insert a cloth between the iron and the fabric and set the temperature of the iron to the lowest (below 140°C) and choose the “silk” position.
The major disadvantage of iron is that it tends to flatten and therefore lose volume. We therefore advise you to limit the use of the latter as much as possible and to only make occasional pressures, with the point, at the place where the folds are, taking care not to pass over the magnet. You can move it or bypass it.
Take care to remove all stains completely before using steam, as the heat will permanently set the stains in the fabric.
